Brookline Access Television was founded in 1984 and is a private non-profit organization governed by a nine member Board of Directors appointed by the Brookline Selectmen.
Mission
Brookline Cable Community Trust, Inc. D.B.A. Brookline Access Television (BATV) exists to increase the community's use of the cable TV medium for better appreciation of, and involvment in the town. BATV is commited to establishing itself as a valuable first amendment resource for use by the Brookline community. BATV encourages the production of non-commercial programming of local interest by Brookline residents and organizations. BATV is committed to providing a wide range of viewing alternatives, including member produced programming, BATV initiated programming including community affairs, and acquired programming. BATV is committed to showcasing on its channels both the programming produced by its members and that sponsored by Brookline residents, and to maintaining the highest possible technical standards on those channels.
Funding
Primary funding for BATV comes from an agreement between BATV and the Town of Brookline to provide Public, Educational, and Government Access based on subscriber franchise fees from Comcast & RCN.
Membership
All persons, firms, corporations, businesses, organizations, institutions, and other entities in the Town of Brookline who subscribe to the purpose of the corporation and who support the corporation by participation are entitled to membership.
